Sofia. Bulgarian tobacco growers will support the party that will protect their interests and assist tobacco growers in Bulgaria, National Association of Tobacco Growers Chairman Tsvetan Filev said in an interview with FOCUS News Agency.
Broomrape or Orobanche ramosa is a leafless parasitic plant, affecting several crops such as rapeseed, hemp, melon... This parasite depends entirely on the host plant for nutrients that it draws directly in the sap circulating in its host's roots. Tobacco plants attacked by broomrape appear stunted.
The fast spreading ability of the parasite as well as its prolificity led to giving up certain plots on which tobacco was previously grown.
